The Ski Resort
If you have stayed in Verbier you may question the inclusion of Nendaz as a luxury ski resort. We understand this in some respects but whilst Nendaz does not have either the glamour or the atmosphere of Verbier, after all few resorts do, it is a modern and expanding ski resort with some fabulous luxury ski chalets, that offer stunning value and access to one of the best networks in Europe, the Verbier Four Valleys. Yes, it is not as well linked as its neighbour over the mountain, but the standard of luxury ski chalets in Nendaz in comparison to Verbier more than make up for this.
Once just a small hamlet of traditional Swiss farms, today it is an ever growing ski resort . The luxury skiing is of course superb and simple to get to from Nendaz. This said, getting back for intermediates is not as simple.
In respect of the luxury skiing, beginners will start at Tracouet nursery slopes above Nendaz and then progress on to the long green run through the trees. There are just enough blue runs around Nendaz to keep them busy on their first week.
Intermediate skiing around Siviez, Veysonnaz and Thyon is very good and simple to access. Getting back is a little more involved as the only way to ski back is via an itinerary run and then a black. Most therefore take the short bus ride from Siviez back to Nendaz. In terms of the Verbier it is a similar story, great to access, but again it is not so simple coming back. To ski back it is one of the Tortin, expert skiers will love the fact that this is the only route back, it is after all a couple of awesome ski run, but for intermediate skiers the Col des Gentianes cable car or the gondola at Chaussoure is probably the best option. Neither are too difficult in good conditions, but they should not nevertheless be attempted lightly. Once down there is a blue to Siviez and then the ski bus or itinerary and black as mentioned previously.
As for advanced skiers, the Verbier Four Valleys is world class with plenty to do on and off the piste. The Chaussoure itinerary or Col des Gentianesare both on the door step and awesome and the fact that if you ski them every day if you go across to Verbier is a great excuse in our book!
Worth Knowing
For the ultimate luxury ski holiday, fly into Sion with Snowjet, just 20 to 25 minute transfer from Nendaz. It couldn''t be simpler, not forgetting the fact that it allows you to ski longer and avoid the busier airports.
Off Piste Skiing
A true luxury ski resort, the off-piste is extensive and the Col des Gentianes itinerary run is one of the best in the view of the Luxury Ski Chalets skiers. The Col des Mines and Vallon D Arby are relatively easy in good weather and the Greppon Blanc so plenty to enjoy.
Snow Boarding
The Verbier Four Vallees it has some great luxury snowboarding. Whilst thehe Nendaz side has a few drags and flat parts, it makes up for this with its snow park. There are great reds at Siviez as well as across in Verbier. The off-piste is simply awesome and this really is a great snowboarders paradise.
